Example post: A field guide to redaction compliance

Jan 1, 2026 · Compliance · Placeholder Name

[Example content] "Redacted" means different things depending on who's asking. A regulator, an opposing counsel, and an internal compliance team can all have different expectations for what counts as a properly redacted document.

Permanent vs. visual redaction

A black box drawn over text in a PDF viewer is a visual redaction — the underlying text is often still selectable, searchable, or recoverable. A permanent redaction actually removes the underlying content, not just its visibility.

What an audit trail needs to show

For most compliance frameworks, it's not enough that a document was redacted — you need to be able to show who flagged it, who approved it, and when. That's the difference between a redaction tool and a redaction process.

This is an example post; treat every specific claim here as a placeholder until it's reviewed against the compliance frameworks your team actually needs to meet.
